How Device Monitoring Works
What gets monitored automatically
Once you add a device to your profile, MyTech-Fix monitors it for:
Firmware updates — we check for new firmware releases for your specific device model. When a newer version is available, you'll get a notification explaining what changed and how to install it.
Security vulnerabilities (CVEs) — we monitor the National Vulnerability Database (NVD) daily for newly published security advisories affecting your device models. If a CVE is found for a device you own, you'll be notified within 24 hours.
End-of-life warnings — when a device is approaching its manufacturer end-of-support date, we'll give you advance warning at 6 months and again at 3 months so you can plan ahead.
Device age and warranty — if you record a purchase date when adding a device, we'll remind you when the manufacturer warranty is approaching expiry.
Battery reminders — for battery-powered devices (Ring doorbells, Arlo cameras, Ecobee sensors), we send periodic reminders to check or replace batteries based on typical battery life for that device model.
WiFi performance trends — if your network diagnostic results drop significantly below your 30-day average, we'll flag it so you can investigate before it becomes a bigger problem.
How the monitoring works
MyTech-Fix maintains a firmware knowledge base for common devices and updates it automatically using a combination of web searches and the NVD's public API. You don't need to register your device with the manufacturer or connect any accounts — monitoring is based on the brand and model you record in your device profile.
Daily checks run in the background. When something changes (a new firmware version, a new CVE), all users who own that device model are notified automatically.
What you need to do
Nothing, beyond adding your devices to your profile. Monitoring starts automatically once a device is saved. Adding an optional purchase date enables warranty and age-based notifications too.
